A Morning In The Life - CareGiver Edition!
If you're thinking about joining our incredible team of CareGivers but aren't sure what to expect, this blog post is for you! Take a glimpse into a morning with our wonderful Jo and see firsthand the impact you can make. Every day is different, but one thing is certain - you'll be making a real difference in someone's life! 💙
Jo first joined Right at Home as a part-time caregiver in April 2022 - she enjoyed the role so much that she decided to take a leap and make it her full-time career in 2023. She realised that it's never too late to have a career change!
Beyond being a wonderful caregiver, Jo also plays a vital role in her community, since she facilitates several community groups in Bordon and proudly serves as the company’s Community Champion!
When Jo is out in the community, her day often begins in Bordon at 10 AM, where she sets up and leads the Singing for the Mind group; this session, like all of our community groups, is open to everyone but places a special focus on supporting those living with dementia. Music is a powerful tool for memory recall and evoking cognitive function, and no musical experience is needed to join in! Jo carefully prepares lyrics and music ahead of time, ensuring that each session is engaging and enjoyable to all attendees.
Following on from her Singing for the Mind session, Jo accompanies a client home, where she prepares their lunch, encourages them to play the piano, does some washing up and tidying and spends quality time chatting with them before she goes to her next call in the afternoon. Companionship is a key part of home care, which is why our visits last a minimum of one hour - allowing caregivers to provide support without feeling rushed.
Before heading off, Jo records detailed notes about her visit - this ensures a continuity of care, allowing the next caregiver to seamlessly pick up where she left off.
Jo’s journey is an inspiring example of how a career change can be incredibly rewarding. Taking the leap into home care was the right decision for her, and she continues to make a meaningful impact every day.
If you're considering a career in care and want to know how you can make a difference, our friendly team would love to hear from you!
